Zarnesti National Park Visitation Centre is located on the way to Plaiul Foii from Zarnesti. The project started in 2002 as a result of a competition followed by the award of the works funded by the World Bank.
Site orientation provides a major opening to the Piatra Craiului Mountains, to south direction. This direction is imposing the orientation of the functions towards a generous view of the ridge of the mountain.
The organic shape is made using the old technique of wooden tiles roofs, expressing in a modern language the remarkable plasticity of this traditional material.The functions of the Centre are: Museum of Piatra Craiului, Administration area / offices , accomodation area (hotel), the technical area. The major position in this development is occupied by the Museum of Piatra Craiului. It is a modern museum that offers visitors an interactive experience using Kinect projection systems and technologies that transform the movements of visitors in directions to images, sounds, maps and the maps projection onto the Piatra Craiului model.
With a total area of 1,880 square meters of construction spaces, the dominant position is occupied by Piatra Craiului model, which has a privileged position in relation to the major mountain perspective. This dictates the compositional dominant of the assembly and benefits from generous glazed area of 140 sqm. This space distributes the visitors towards various areas of the museum (the dioramas, the sheepfold, the cave, the trail) and the support functions of the Center (conference room and classroom for students and restaurant).
