This house was unused for more than 20 years - after a happening the owners moved to another place, and now they want to return to the old house. At first, they intend to build a new house looks like the old one, because this place has been seriously degraded and can not protect itself from sunlight or rain. But the architects want to keep the old house as much as they can, because this house was built by the deseaced father himself, so it likes a reminiscence. So at last the architects decide to cover all the old building by a transparent material – poly carbonate – to protect the old house and make some new green space.
Moreover, this material really meets requirements with this case – with the sunlight inside the house, the owner can plant tree anywhere but it is not too hot because this highland place have cool temperature whole year.
Due to the use of poly carbonate, the old buildings still be seen faintly from outside.
Inside the old building the functions are almost kept like before but some details are rebuilt in order to suit not only new requires but also contemporary architecture. The dominant color is learned from the first color of this old house.
The architects choose a corner to remove the old mortal in order to show the rock wall inside – this is a traditional technique of building from the owner’s grandfather. Each stone was chosen and placed meticulous by the deceased father. Moreover, this corner can also show many memorial periods of this house: the time it was built when they were just a couple, the first time expanded when they had childrens, the second time renovated to feed some pigs, etc...
All the old tiles had to remove because of safety concerns – they are too old and sometimes can drop down dangerously. Almost space inside have wooden ceiling so it’s no need to replace by new tiles.
The old tiles was used to pave walkway, not only for aesthetic purpose but also for preventing planting water wet feet or shoes.
The spaces between two layers – wall of old building and transparent plastic wall – are used for working, dinning and relaxing.
All exterior doors of this new house are made from recycled wood – this material both lower cost and more durable to weather.
